  1. If Windows should fail to start after you've changed
  2. the startup bitmap at anytime, you will need to do 
  3. the following:
  4.  
  5. 1)    Using the DOS editor, place the word REM before 
  6. any SUBST statements in AUTOEXEC.BAT, and save the 
  7. new AUTOEXEC.BAT.
  8.  
  9. 2) Reboot the computer.
  10.  
  11. 3) Type CD \WINDOWS  (the main Windows directory)
  12.  
  13. 4) Make sure there is a file named VGALOGO.RLE in 
  14. your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory.
  15.  
  16. 5) Type SETUP.  This starts the Windows setup program.
  17.  
  18. 6) Using the cursor keys, move to the second line 
  19. from the top, where it asks you to choose a video 
  20. driver.  Type <ENTER>.  Choose the video driver you 
  21. were using before Windows crashed.  If you are 
  22. unsure, choose VGA.  Keep typing <ENTER> to accept 
  23. the new choice.

  25. 7) Type WIN to start Windows.
  26.  
  27. 8) You may need to re-install your fonts.  To do 
  28. this, click on Control Panel in the Main window, and 
  29. choose the Fonts icon.  Locate the directory where 
  30. the fonts are (usually \WINDOWS\SYSTEM). Click the 
  31. Select All button to install them.

  33. 9) The fonts won't be properly installed until you 
  34. exit and restart Windows.
  35.  
  36. 10) You may now remove the REM statements you added to 
  37. AUTOEXEC.BAT SUBST command line if you wish.
